I answer these questions by presenting an example of the current Gold Standards in medicine for diagnosing, treating and following up breast cancer. My goal is to expand healing technologies and eliminate harmful one.
BREAST CANCER EXAMPLE
Is breast cancer diagnosis safe or healing?
Palpation: Palpation is considered the Gold Standard for cancer diagnosis.
Invasive, Painful, Limited.
Hands and fingers can't see inside the body. Ultrasound can, but it isn't used often.
Fingers are inserted into the rectum for prostate cancer instead of ultrasound. Fingers are interested into the vagina for ovarian and other pelvic cancers. Fingers can't reach ovaries or prostate.
Is mammography, biopsy, CT or PET scans safe or healing?
Mammography: Mammography is considered the Gold Standard for breast cancer diagnosis.
Painful, ruptures tumors, radiation equivalent to 500 low dose x-rays (.5 mSv/.001mSv) multiplied by the number of views. (.5 mSv/.001 mSv PER VIEW)
Biopsy: Biopsy is considered the Gold Standard for determining tumor malignancy.
Painful, ruptures tumors, causes cancer cells to spread, false positives, false negatives. Most malignant tumors have a seal around them made of a firm collagen.
CT/PET: CT and PET scans are considered the Gold Standard for cancer diagnosis.
Radiation equivalent to 60,000-120,000 ”low dose” x-rays (60mSv includes with and without contrast + cellular susceptibility, meaning the effects are greater for certain populations. + gadolinium. (30 mSv/.001 mSv WITHOUT CONTRAST. 60 mSv/.001 WITH CONTRAST)
Is chemo, radiation, lumpectomy, or a mastectomy safe or healing?
Lumpectomy/Mastectomy: Invasive Surgery is considered the Gold Standard for cancer treatment.
Painful, causes cancer cells to spread, mutilating, debilitating
Chemotherapy: Chemotherapy is considered the Gold Standard for cancer therapy.
Unhealthy
Painful
Destroys healthy cells
Weakens immune system
Hair loss
Extreme side effects
Time consuming.
Radiation Therapy: Radiation Therapy is considered the Gold Standard for cancer treatment.
Radiation equivalent to 2 billion low dose x-rays (80, 000 mSv multiplied by the number of treatments. If the number of radiation treatments is 25, that’s 2,000,000 mSv. 2,000,000mSv/.001mSv is equivalent to 2,000,000,000 low dose x-rays.
Leaves permanent scarring.
Is pain medicine safe or healing?
Pain Medicine: Morphine is considered the Gold Standard for pain relief.
Morphine causes cancer cells to spread and encourages cancer cells to build more tumors through a process called angiogenesis. Angio meaning vessel. Genesis meaning life.
Morphine suppresses the immune system preventing the body from defending itself.
Is breast cancer follow up with x-ray and/or PET/CT scans safe or healing?
Chest X-Ray/Mammography: X-Ray is considered the Gold Standard for Breast Cancer Follow Up.
Radiation equivalent to 500 low dose x-rays (.5 mSv/.001mSv) multiplied by the number of views. (.5 mSv/.001 mSv PER VIEW)
CT/PET: CT & PET Scans are considered the GOld Standard for cancer follow up.
60,000-120,000 low dose x-rays multiplied by the number of follow up CT/PET scans. Generally 4 per year, once per quarter that is equivalent to nearly 500,000 low dose x-rays per year.
Causes cancer. Causes illness. Causes other disease including heart disease. (30 mSv/.001 mSv WITHOUT CONTRAST. 60 mSv/.001 WITH CONTRAST)
THE AVERAGE IONIZING RADIATION EXPOSURE IN CANCER PATIENTS
MAMMOGRAPHY: 500 * 6 = 3,000 low dose x-rays
CT/PET: 120,000 low dose x-rays
RADIATION THERAPY: 2,000,000,000 low dose x-rays
MAMMOGRAPHY: 500 * 6 = 3,000 low dose x-rays
CT/PET Y1: 80,000 * 4 = 480,000 low dose x-rays
CT/PET Y2: 80,000 * 4 = 480,000 low dose x-rays
If it's not safe or healing, is there another way?
Last year 110 million CT scans were ordered in the US. There's only 300 million people in the US. It is estimated that 1 out of every 2000 people get cancer from their medical tests. That's 55,000 people.
